Care of Creation

Mount Carmel’s Green Team was formed in May of 2008 to be faithful to God’s command to be good stewards of the earth and the portion of our mission statement that states we will ‘care for the world’. Mount Carmel has taken many steps to conserve water, electricity and heat in our building and encourages its members to do the same at home. Green Team accomplishments include the installation of bike racks, use of green practices for Holy Communion and coffee hour, recycling practices building-wide, resources for members such as books and other information about green living. An animal blessing service is held each summer to celebrate the diversity of life God has given to us, and an Earth Day Talent show was held to celebrate all things green. Mount Carmel Green Bags and stainless steel water bottles, CFL’s, and environmentally friendly cleaning products are available for purchase at our “Make a Difference” Marketplace. A perennial exchange was held this spring and a vegetarian cooking demonstration is coming this fall. Mount Carmel has been certified as a Green Congregation by the Green Congregations Program and the Lutheran Earthkeeping Network of the Synods.
