Seniors' Ministry

The Senior Ministry at Mount
Carmel Lutheran Church is currently in transition. It will strive to minister to the physical, emotional,
social and spiritual needs of our seniors as well as those in the community; enabling people, created in the image of God, to discover
that creative energy is ageless.
The senior program and friends shared a Thanksgiving meal to celebrate 27 years of the Pillars ministry at Mount Carmel in November. Sue Takacs, director, former director Esther Drege, and past parish nurses were thanked for their many years of service. There will be a new senior ministry developed and launched in 2008.
Our developing senior ministry will strive to facilitate many of the same functions as the Pillars Center did, which included:
Individual counseling, referrals to Parish Nurse, Pastor, and health
care professionals
- Being greeted and feeling welcome, being a "support Community"
- Being visited while ill or bereaved
- Working creatively with others in all age groups
- Educational and cultural enrichment, through programs
- Sharing sessions, of life's bumpy milestones
- Social and recreational interactions, tours, and celebrations
- Breaking bread together, communion
- Serving others, - good will projects
- Spiritual enrichment, bible study and worship, for all Faiths
- Health and wellness, blood pressure clinic, flu shots, Parish Nurse
program
- A sense of being "needed and important" as we age.
